Shillong

Sohra (Cherrapunji)

One of the wettest places on Earth, with dramatic waterfalls such as Nohkalikai and Seven Sisters Falls, limestone caves and wide valley views.

Dawki and the Umngot River

A border town famous for boats floating on crystal-clear water. The river is clearest in the dry months, roughly November to April.

Living root bridges

Bridges grown from the roots of rubber fig trees by Khasi communities. The double-decker bridge at Nongriat involves a long walk with many steps.

Carry an umbrella or raincoat in every season; Meghalaya weather changes quickly.
Allow extra time on hill roads during the monsoon, when landslides can slow traffic.
Wear good walking shoes for waterfalls and root bridge treks.
